I honestly do not understand a lot of the “Reggie/Cammie” hate. The most controversial items from Reggie are as follows.
1. (Reggie) Saying that New Super Mario Bros. Wii would outsell one of the Modern Warfare 2 games. It is currently on track to outsell all of the versions of that game, worldwide, combined. What’s controversial about that?
2. When he said that used games are not in the best interest of consumers. It depends on the condition of the used game. When he said “businesses don’t sell used games.” He’s talking about video game businesses. Meaning: Nintendo does not personally sell used games. Also, reselling games to GameStop is a bit of a rip-off anyways. We all know that and it is common knowledge. You buy a new game for $60. Resell it for $20 store credit and then the store sells it for $55. In what way is that in your best interests?
A lot of the Cammie hatred comes from her being a “soccer mom” and saying she sprained her wrist while playing a Wii game with her kids? Is that about right? Or is it because she was promoting Nintendogs by saying that she thinks Puppies are cute? Seriously, doing a Google search brought up that gamers think she is “fake,” not a good public speaker, and reads off of a teleprompter. So, that’s about it? The term “Fake” is subjective, there aren’t many good public speakers in the video game industry, and everyone reads off a teleprompter at press events at E3. Sometimes, you can read ahead on the prompter. As for
The other bit of hate seems to be because of the lack of titles that get localized, or the amount of ports. When you port over a video game, you need to recode it for the new system. It’s not “reuse” of sprites. Take for example: Pikmin: New Play Control.
They changed the resolution from the Game Cube version. They had to reversion the graphics to a slightly higher resolution, remap a few of the levels for 16:9 Widescreen and fix the levels to fit the new play controls. They also added a new play mechanic allowing people to roll back the clock to refine strategy. All of that takes manpower and hours. In what way is that lazy? That translates into a lot of effort and funds. Games take time to make and there are always 11th hour issues. That requires funding, time, and more.
That said, looking forward to seeing the reactions to Littlebigplanet, Resident Evil 5, and God of War 1, 2, and 3 with the Sony motion controls. I have more feedback for you two, but I’ll stop for now. Kinda busy.

Philip was also rambling something about how it is actually more expensive to make sprites nowadays, because it’s hard to find someone who is trained in sprite work. It’s actually a lot cheaper to work with polygons than sprites.
(Sarah) They do have Megaman 9 to go off of, on that same platform, though.

Custom sprite work, such as in a -say- Contra 4 or the DS Castlevania series, is much more expensive than polygon as you have to animate individual frames of animation. In games with splines and polygons, you can set waypoints to move an object to and automatically move it there. You don’t have to do it frame by frame for 24 (or 60) frames.

I also get the idea that it has to do with Mother 3 for some Nintendo fans. I think Nintendo has put enough tests out there to see if quirky games are worth localizing… Chibi Robo, Custom Robo, Elite Beat Agents, Master of Illusion, Starfy, Fire Emblem DS, Advance Wars, Polarium, and so forth. The cost of localization is kind of high. People do not look at the cost of production.
